The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has a complaint against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and his supporters for protesting against the anti-encroachment drive in Shaheen Bagh this morning after the South Delhi Mayor, Mukesh Suryan, wrote to the civic body.

AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan joined the locals protesting against the demolition drive in Shaheen Bagh. According to Khan, action was being taken to “deliberately disturb law and order”. “I am here now. Let them show where the encroachment is,” he said.

Suryan’s letter to the SDMC took note of the Delhi BJP chief’s letter seeking ‘just action’ against AAP and Congress leaders for blocking the demolition drive in the south Delhi locality.

“It was decided in advance that action will be taken today against the illegal encroachments in Shaheen Bagh against Bangladeshi Rohingyas. However, certain political parties and their leaders, including MLAs of the Delhi government, leaders of the Congress and the AAP, lay in front of the bulldozers, hindering government action. The police and civic officials were stopped from carrying out their duty,” Adesh Gupta had written earlier today.

“Hence, I request you to take just action against these leaders for obstructing government work,” he added.

This morning, bulldozers rolled into Shaheen Bagh, which was the epicenter of the mammoth protest against the Centre’s controversial new law – the Citizenship Amendment Act, as authorities continue to crackdown on illegal encroachments in the national capital.

Leaders of the Congress and other political parties joined the residents to protest against the anti-encroachment drive by sitting on dharna and blocking the bulldozers and excavators despite the heavy deployment of the police force.

Earlier, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation had also razed several homes and shops in Jahangirpuri in a perceived anti-encroachment drive after communal clashes broke out in the area on Hanuman Jayanti in April.
