The commissioner of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC), Sanjay Goel said on Tuesday that they removed temporary encroachments from Mangolpuri with the help of local police. The officials of the municipal council removed around 66 temporary structures with the help of one bulldozer and three dumper trucks.
Around 266 metres of road were cleared during the anti-encroachment drive. Illegal parking in adjoining parks were also cleared and about 0.79 acres got vacated. The road encroachments were removed by the licensing department, the engineering department and the horticulture department of Rohini zone as a joint team.
Officials said the drive was an attempt to clear pedestrian walkways and roads from encroachments to ease traffic and pedestrian movement. This isn’t the first time that anti-encroachment drives were conducted in Mangolpuri. One was conducted from 17 September to 1 October in 2021 and another was held on 7 January of this year.
According to the officials, such anti-encroachment drives on public roads are done regularly in all wards by North DMC with or without notice under section 321/322/323/325 of the MCD Act, 1957 with prior intimation to local police. Commissioner Sanjay Goel said that the encroachment removal drive is a routine process of North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
