The bulldozer politics in Delhi refuses to abate, it seems. The Delhi government has now sought a report from all three civic bodies, asking for details of its use of bulldozers in this financial year so far. The direction comes two days after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed the BJP for using bulldozers in anti-encroachment drives.

“Bulldozers are being run by MCD against encroachment in Delhi. But 2 things are important. One, 80% of Delhi will come under encroachment,” Kejriwal had said on Monday.

All three civic bodies in Delhi — South Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation — will have to submit the report on the use of bulldozers from April 1 till now.

Recently, bulldozer politics began in Delhi after the North Delhi Municipal Corporation launched an anti-encroachment drive in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on April 20. Jahangirpuri had witnessed violent clashes just a week earlier on Ram Navami.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s opponents said that it was targeting a particular community and the poor just to “harass” them in the holy month of Ramadan on the pretext of an anti-encroachment drive will further spoil the atmosphere in the area.
