Huge quantity of gold which was seized from the second apartment of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, is worth Rs 4.31 crores, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said.
On July 27, the ED raided the property of Arpita Mukherjee in the outskirts of Kolkata in Belghoria and recovered cash worth Rs 27 crores and a huge quantity of gold. Around 6580 grams of 24 karat gold products along with 1572 grams of 22 karat gold items were seized during the raid from Aprita Mukherjee’s Belghoria residence, ED sources told India Today. The mountain of cash from the second home of Mukherjee was seized days after the probe agency seized Rs 21 crores.
BANGLES, NECKLACES RECOVERED
The ED had recovered seven pieces of 24 karats gold bangles weighing around 500gms each, two bangles of 18 karat and 22 karat each, along with 2 more bracelets. The agency also found three pieces of 24 karat gold bars weighing 1 kg each and two small-sized gold bars from two apartments in Belghoria located in North 24 Parganas.
Apart from this, the ED also found four big necklaces, 18 earrings, 9 necklaces, 1 gold pen, 7 gold chains, 5 rings and a gold chain with ‘A’ marked on it during the raid.
Meanwhile, Partha Chatterjee has been named as a nominee in aide’s Arpita Mukherjee’s 31 life insurance policies. The probe by the ED also revealed that properties were then brought in the name of this partnership firm of the accused persons.

The agency is attempting to unearth the money trail in its probe into West Bengal teachers’ recruitment scam which allegedly took place when Chatterjee was the Minister of Education.
Chatterjee is involved in an alleged recruitment scam of Group ‘C’ & ‘D’ staff, Assistant Teachers of classes IX-XII and primary teachers. Both Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the ED and have been sent to custody till August 5.
