Tarun Kapoor appointed as advisor to Prime
Minister Modi
Retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
officer and former Petroleum Secretary, Tarun
Kapoor has been appointed as the advisor to
Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kapoor, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the
Himachal Pradesh cadre, superannuated as
the secretary of the ministry of petroleum and
natural gas on November 30, 2021.
IRDAI allowed insurance companies to invest
up to 30% of assets in BFSI sector
The Insurance Regulatory and Development
Authority of India (lRDAI) in exercise of its
powers conferred under Regulation 14(2) of
the IRDAI (Investment) Regulations, 2016, has
increased the investment limit of all insurance
companies to invest in the Banking, Financial
services and Insurance (BFSI) companies to
30% of investment assets from 25%.
This rise in limit will increase the exposure of
insurance companies in this sector. Notably,
this move comes just before Life Insurance
Corporation of India’s (LIC) Rs 21,000 crore
IPO (Initial Public Offering), the largest
from India. It can increase the insurer’s
participation in this IPO.
India’s 1st indigenous aircraft carrier INS
Vikrant will be handed over to Indian navy
India’s First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC),
Indian Navy Ship (INS) Vikrant will be delivered
to the Indian Navy by May, 2022 and will be
commissioned on 15 August, 2022.
The IAC has been constructed by Cochin
Shipyard Limited (CsL). The IAC will use
ski-jump technology for launching the aircraft
from the carrier. It costs around Rs 23,000
crore.
Cochin Shipyard will build India’s 1st
indigenous hydrogen-fuelled electric vessel
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and
Waterways is set to build India’s first
indigenous hydrogen-fuelled electric vessels
at Cochin Shipyard Limited, Cochin, Kerala.
The hydrogen fuel cell vessel based on
Low-Temperature Proton Exchange
Membrane Technology (LT-PEM) called Fuel
Cell Electric Vessel (FCEV) is expected to cost
around Rs 17.50 crore.
4 May: International Firefighter’s Day
International Firefighter’s Day is observed
every year on May 4th to pay respect to those
firefighting experts who have lost their lives in
the line of duty.
Unfortunately, the International Firefighters’
Day was instituted on 4th January, 1999 after
a tragic incident occurred in Linton town
of Australia, on December 2, 1998. In the
horrible incident, five firemen lost their lives,
while trying to douse a wildfire.
