What Mohan Bhagwat told madrasa kids when he met them

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, while on a visit to a mosque in Delhi, interacted with madrasa students as part of his outreach to the Muslim community. Bhagwat was in Kasturba Gandhi Marg mosque on Thursday to meet Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, the chief cleric of the All India Imam Organisation.

The closed-door meeting between Mohan Bhagwat and the Imam at the Delhi mosque lasted for more than an hour. Senior Sangh functionaries Krishna Gopal, Ram Lal, and Indresh Kumar were also present at the meeting.

Umer Ahmed Ilyasi termed Mohan Bhagwat ‘rashtra pita’ and said the RSS chief visited the Madarsa Tajweedul Quran in north Delhi at his invitation and interacted with children there, PTI reported.

Describing the RSS chief’s interaction with children, Indresh Kumar, one of the Sangh functionaries told India Today that Mohan Bhagwat asked the children what they study and what they hope to achieve in life. The children told the RSS chief that they want to become doctors and engineers.

Cleric Umer Ahmed Ilyasi informed Bhagwat that apart from religious education, the mosque is working to provide modern education for the children.

Besides, the madrasa kids also chanted ‘Madre Vatan’ and ‘Jai Hind’ while interacting with the RSS chief.

“He [Mohan Bhagwat] was extremely cordial,” said madrasa cleric Mehmud Hasan, going on to describe the RSS chief’s visit to the madrasa.

According to the cleric, the RSS chief told the children to learn computer skills, apart from Islamic studies, that will help them in future. Bhagwat also heard the Quran during his brief one-hour visit to the madrasa.

He also asked the children general knowledge questions about the states and UTs of India and later congratulated some kids for their thorough rendition of the Quran. The RSS chief also stressed that modern education should also be part of madrasa education.

After wrapping up his Kasturba Gandhi Marg mosque visit, Mohan Bhagwat also visited Azad market and interacted with madrasa students there.

The RSS chief has been holding discussions with Muslim intellectuals for strengthening communal harmony.

“RSS Sarsanghachalak meets people from all walks of life. It is part of the continuous general ‘Samvad’ process,” RSS spokesperson Sunil Ambekar had said.
