By Apoorva Jayachandran : Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Tirupati to demonstrate solidarity with CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decision for decentralisation and the establishment of three capitals in the state. People in large numbers were seen as the rally began from Krishnapuram Thana area to the city administration office.

Several members of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) participated in the rally, including MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, MP Gurumoorthy and other senior leaders.

The rally came days after the massive success of Visakha Garjana rally in Visakhapatnam. Despite heavy rainfall and inclement weather conditions, thousands of people joined the rally organised by Joint Action Committee (JAC) to support decentralisation and three capital plan pushed by Andhra Pradesh government.

Several MLAs, ministers, and non-political members joined the rally that started from the Ambedkar statue at the LIC building which concluded with a public meeting at the YSR statue near RK Beach.

The three-capital concept was initiated by Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. YSRCP, after coming to power in 2019, had reversed the decision of the previous TDP government to develop Amaravati as the only state capital. It decided to develop three state capitals – Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool.

By Abdul Basheer: As the chorus for three capitals intensifies, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on decentralisation and three capitals organised a mega 3.5 km rally with the support of the ruling Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party in Vizag. The panel held the ‘Visakha Garjana’ as a show of strength in favour of Visakhapatnam as the state capital.

MLAs, ministers, and non-political JAC members began the rally from the Ambedkar statue at the LIC building which will culminate with a public meeting at the YSR statue near RK Beach.

Around 1 lakh people were in attendance for the mega ‘Garjana’ rally. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy initiated the three-capital concept in the very first year of his office. However, the Opposition has not been in favour of the idea. Even the Sivaramakrishnan Commission had suggested decentralisation, but the Opposition chose Amaravati and made it the capital.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) on Friday reiterated its agenda on the 3-capital policy and that it is determined to develop all the regions of the state equally.

Speaking a day ahead of the massive Visakha Garjana Sabha, the party’s senior-most leader and Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD) Chairman YV Subba Reddy slammed the Opposition for setting a false narrative and asserted that YSRCP was keen to develop Amaravati too.
