5 Injured In Fight After Stone Thrown At Dog Hits Private Property In Delhi

New Delhi:

A stone aimed at a stray dog led to a fight between two groups in North Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi and five people sustained injuries, police said.

Late on Sunday, Mohit, 20, and two of his friends were walking in the Kale Reti lane when some stray dogs barked at them. In fear, one of them pelted a stone targeting a dog but ended up hitting the main gate of a house belonging to one Ram Kumar.

Kumar and his sons — Saurabh and Jatin — confronted the trio and an argument broke out between them, a senior police officer said.

Sharp objects were used in the fight, the officer said, adding five people – Kumar’s sons and the three friends — sustained minor injuries and were discharged from hospital after primary treatment.

“Saurabh and his brother Jatin and Mohit and his two friends sustained blunt injuries, which were minor in nature. They were taken to a hospital, where after preliminary treatment, they were discharged immediately,” the officer said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said legal action has been taken under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code after recording the statements from both parties.

Police said the accused had initially planned to rob the man’s wallet and phone, but when he overheard the victim talking to his mother about carrying Rs 8,000- Rs 10,000 in cash, the accused planned to kill him.

After strangulating him, the accused allegedly stabbed him to “confirm” he was dead. The victim’s body was found on the second floor of a residential building.

According to police, they received a call on Monday around 1.40 am, and found Rouhaan lying in a pool of blood with injuries on the neck and abdomen at the spot.

Sagar Singh Kalsi, DCP (North), said, “The man worked as a momo seller, and lived with around 10 persons in a room nearby. He was the breadwinner of his family. There were no eyewitnesses. We formed five teams and sent them to identify and arrest the accused.”

The accused, Noor Mohammad (22), was caught with the robbed cash and a knife.

Police said Noor lived near the victim’s place. He had planned to commit robbery because he didn’t have a job. “He was standing outside the victim’s dwelling when he overheard the man talking about carrying cash. He took his scarf and strangulated the man. The victim collapsed, but the accused then stabbed him multiple times to make sure he was dead. He fled with the cash, leaving the body on the ground,” said a police officer.

A total of 26 CCTVs near the spot were scanned. People living on the first floor of the building were questioned. Police identified a suspect who was seen entering and leaving the building twice at 7 pm.

“We spoke to the victim’s mother, RWA members, informers and locals to identify the suspect. The accused was arrested from a nearby locality after raids,” said the DCP.

Toddler shot at while his relatives try out new pistol, 2 arrested

A three-year-old boy was allegedly shot at while his aunt and grandaunt were trying to fire a bullet from a newly purchased pistol at their home in North Delhi’s Anand Parbat area. The two women were later arrested. Cops said the child’s condition is stable.

According to the police, the grandaunt initially lied to them to save her daughter-in-law. Two other members of the family, who allegedly bought the pistol and are also involved, are absconding.

The incident took place around 1 am on Saturday. The grandaunt, aged 47, initially said that she was walking home with her sister’s grandson from Shastri Nagar to Than Singh Nagar when two unknown bike riders shot at her near the Sarai Rohilla flyover. The bullet hit the boy in the shoulder.

The toddler was rushed to a hospital and underwent a surgery after he lost a lot of blood. A case of attempted murder was registered.

“We took the grandaunt’s statement and tried verifying the allegations, but there seemed to be some discrepancies. The team suspected the woman’s activities. We checked more than two dozen CCTVs in the area. Nobody was seen firing at the baby. The woman was also not seen in the footage,” said a senior police officer.

The team then visited the child’s grandmother and parents and made enquiries. Their statements differed from that of the complainant.

Sagar Singh Kalsi, DCP (North) said, “The woman was again questioned and she blamed a local behind the incident. We found that she was lying and she later confessed. The woman said her daughter-in-law, aged 20, accidentally fired at the baby boy while they were trying a new weapon at their home. We have recovered a blood-stained bedsheet from their home and the weapon used during the offence.”

Search is on to nab the woman’s absconding sons. The aunt and grandaunt have been arrested and booked under sections pertaining to criminal conspiracy and giving false information to a public servant. The accused family is mainly involved in petty street crimes and are history-sheeters, said the police.
