Delhi Police solves two snatching cases from culprit’s ‘lucky’ green jacket


Delhi police arrested a 27-year-old snatcher for reportedly snatching mobile phones and later selling them to passengers near railway stations and bus terminals narrating a false story. What is even more interesting is that the police nabbed the accused with the help of his ‘lucky’ green jacket that had saved him from being caught many times.

The accused, identified as Faraz, is a resident of Kucha Rehman, Ballimaran. He was previously involved in seven cases of snatching, hurt and Arms Act registered at different Police station of the district. Police recovered eight mobile phones along with his two-wheeler used in the commission of snatching from his possession.

Accused involved in snatching

The incidents of snatching came to light when police received two complaints at North Delhi’s Civil Lines police station. On January 2, a 31-year-old ambulance driver filed a complaint that at around 7.45 am he received a call from his friend when he was near a petrol pump in the Civil Lines area. The victim said that the accused came on a two-wheeler and snatched his mobile phone.

After two days, police said they received another complaint from a labourer in Sadar Bazar who claimed that on January 4, at around 9.20 am, when he was crossing the road in front of St. Stephens Hospital, suddenly the accused came on a white scooty without a helmet and snatched his phone and escaped.

Same person involved in crime

After rigorous scanning of CCTV footage and technical surveillance, police got a lead at Jama Masjid area. During the investigation, on the basis of CCTV footage, the police team came to the conclusion that the same person was involved in both the snatching cases, who wore a ‘green’ jacket and both the incidents took place in the morning hours.

Acting on a tip-off, accused Faraz was apprehended with a scooty near Tikona Park, Mori Gate, Delhi. The suspect was found wearing the same jacket at the time of arrest.

The accused confessed to committing both the snatchings in PS Civil Lines area and also disclosed about committing many crimes in North and Central District areas. He used to sell mobile phones to gullible passers-by or passengers near railway stations narrating a false story about being in a problem.
